Mountain biking in the Saanenland
The charm of the prealpine landscape of the Saanenland lies in its diversity. Gently rolling hills and rich meadows alternate with steep mountainsides and rocky paths. A landscape that is ideal for exploring on a mountain bike. If you're coming from outside the region, you can leave your own bike at home. Both the Grand Hotel Bellevue and the cycle shops recommended by the Gstaad tourist office can offer you top-quality bikes for rent. For our guests who are athletically ambitious, we have drawn up a mountain bike tour that is pleasing for the eyes and demanding on the legs.
The initial climb is gradual. Gently rising cycle paths take us through the idyllic Laune Valley, across upland moors until we reach our first destination: beautiful Lake Laune. Nestling peacefully beneath towering peaks, this picturesque lake is very inviting – you may want to take a dip.
After a brief stop for refreshments, the tough part begins. We cycle the challenging 300 metre climb up to the Chrine Pass, from where we have a magnificent view across to the surrounding peaks and down into the two valleys to the left and right of us.
Once at the top, we take a breather and look back on our ascent. Then comes the swift ride downhill towards Gsteig. The route from there back to the hotel along the Saane is leisurely, and there's time for chatting and relaxation.
In our thoughts, though, we're already back in Gstaad, where an attractive wellness program awaits us at the Bellevue. What greater pleasure, after a demanding bike tour, to pamper ourselves with a restful bath and massage?
